I have an important question....For the JVC HANC250 Noise Cancelling Headphones do you have to play music or can you just use the Noise canceling feature? I want to use them for studying and it is impossible for me? to listen to music.

I tried out the ...
I tried out the bose qc3, and they sound awful. The noise cancellation causes a hissing sound, and the audio quality is subpar compared to Sennheiser HD? 380 Pro, which are cheaper and are the best sounding headphones I've found under $300.

The Bose Quiet ...
The Bose Quiet Comfort 3's would be a complete no go for me, even if I had limitless funds. Who really wants a pair of headphones that don't work at? all when the battery runs out, with no way to replace the battery. That's really bad if you ask me. I bought the JVC's for laptop and iPod use, and they've been very impressive for the money. Would recommend those.
